Sound Devices NoiseAssist Demonstration - Reduce Noise While Recording

In today’s episode we cover a new noise reduction plugin for the Sound Devices Scorpio, 888, and 833 recorders called NoiseAssist. This plugin is most effective at reducing - no eliminating - constant, broadband noise like fans, HVAC systems, or generators. We demonstrate how it works and provide several sample clips.

Sound for Video Session: Tools for Dialogue Sound De-noising Audition, RX

In this week's episode we cover three tools you can use to help reduce noise in your dialogue audio recordings: High pass filters, de-hum, and de-noise plugins. We cover most of this in Adobe Audition but also jump over into Izotope RX to show the same set of tools. The same principles apply for other audio editing apps as well.

Sound for Video Session: Sound Jobs and Recording in Noisy Places

This week we answer a couple of sound questions:
- What types of sound jobs are most in demand?
- Which microphones can you use to record in very noisy places like factories?

Sound for Video Session: EQ Presets, Clothing Noise, 3rd Party Plugins

In this week's Sound for Video Session we run through several questions:

- Should I create an EQ preset for microphones which usually sound too bright (like the Sanken COS-11D when worn on the outside of clothing)?
- How can I manage clothing noise when using a boom mic?
- Are there benefits to using 3rd party audio processing plugins versus using the plugins that come with Adobe Audition?

Here's an example of using an EQ plugin to cut a hole in a music track for dialogue. You can use this same idea to create a preset which helps to reduce "presence boost" which sounds too harsh:
